Tips on washington Background Searches

There are two main ways to request Washington criminal records. They can be done online or via mail. The Washington State Patrol website outlines the two request methods and the details on who may request them as well as how long the requester should allow for the inquiry to be answered.

Washington criminal records may be requested online for a $10 fee payable by credit card. The fee applies to each name searched. Mailed requests are $17. You may follow the link given on the Washington State Patrol website, or you may go directly to the WATCH (Washington Access to Criminal History) website. You will need to login with credit card information for an online request. All relevant forms for mailed requests are available on the WATCH website. Fingerprint based searches are $26.

Online results appear right away, while mailed requested could take one to two weeks.

Criminal history record information can be requested by certified criminal justice agencies or by the public. Agencies have access to full identification and criminal history information. Public access only provides conviction information, which includes the incident that led to conviction. Information regarding pending arrest offenses and a note if the crime is related to kidnapping or sexual offense.
